Join Backwell Playhouse for North Somerset’s longest and best Comedy Night. In a special Double Bill event, we welcome His Serene Excellency, President Obonjo of Lafta Republic, alongside Bristol’s own Dani Johns.

President Obonjo of the Lafta Republic rose to power in a coup 11 years ago and has been slaying audiences across Great Britain ever since.
The President’s solo shows have toured the UK and played at Bath Comedy, Brighton Fringe and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals to packed crowds and critical acclaim.
President Obonjo has attracted legions of fans thanks to his party political broadcasts on social media, NextUp Comedy specials and declaration of war on Wakanda. A beloved character on the comedy circuit, he is in demand as an MC and headliner.

"The Idi Amin of St Albans, President Obonjo is a great comic construct" - Steve Bennett, Chortle
"Provokes bowel shaking laughs" - The Wee Review

Quick-witted, brutally honest and bursting with Bristolian charm, Dani Johns is a rising star on the UK comedy circuit. Her high-energy mix of storytelling, sharp punchlines and shameless oversharing make her an instantly engaging act. She’s been described as a "pocket rocket of a comedian" whose "sassy delivery captivates every audience member."
She’s also been named one of Bristol’s most influential women, as well as featuring on both The Bristol Cool List and Bristol’s Top 20 Rebellious Women.

What they say:
"A brilliant comedian" - BBC Sounds
"Effortlessly charming banter" - The Wee Review
"Instantly likeable with strong gags to back it up" - Kerfuffle Comedy
